Description
Summary:The tradition of criticism in Arabic literature is as older as is Arabic literature itself. But a group of research scholars is convinced that the Arabs got awareness of criticism too late .Rather they think that the awareness of criticism which was got on a very small scale was in fact annihilated by the conditions and prohibitions imposed by Islam. In this article, it has been proved that the tradition of criticism had been founded in the age of Prophethood and Islam didn't consider it as forbidden tree rather it devised the rules to differentiate between standard and substandard literature. This genre was further promoted in the reigns of Umayads and Abbasids and books were written on this topic. If Islam had prohibited criticism, we would not have had so precious treasure of literature.
