Description
Summary:This article covers the problems of theoretical assessment of the seismic stability of a 16-storied building made of precast concrete box units by full-scale experimental testing through the employment of a powerful unbalance-type vibration machine. The authors provide the results of the experimental testing and scale them to assess the effects of an earthquake. The testing procedure that consists in the assessment of the seismic stability of buildings through employment of the vibration testing performed by a powerful vibration machine installed on the soil surface, have proven its high efficiency. As a result of the vibration testing, specific values of accelerations and shifts in terms of the building height and length were identified in lateral and longitudinal directions. The results of extrapolation of the seismic effect of the vibration testing onto the 9-grade seismic load scale have proven that the buildings of this type can be considered seismically stable.
