Description
Summary:The development of the schooling in medieval Serbian state follows, first of all, the impact of the Byzantine way of education; although due to the state and economic development of Serbia from the middle of the 13th century the impact of Western countries on the schooling system in Serbia cannot be downgraded. The role of Serbian church to the historic development of education is of crucial and central importance. We reached the conclusion that some theses on the closing of church regarding schooling existing in our science are not correct, since the education of church staff within the monasteries did not aim to prevent literacy and culture, but to prepare the staff which will manage the life of the Church. It is quite clear the education among the people and in royal courts could be developed by none others than the clergies and educated monks.
