Summary: | The hospital heritage of the Burgundy region has been studied and protected for many years now. These are places which hold numerous works of art dating from the nineteenth century, and which are being re-discovered today. This was a period that took up older traditions of giving portraits of founders, troubadour effigies or copies of older works, in order to establish themselves in a long duration of time, after the Revolution. The portrait galleries were subsequently enriched, as the years went by, with pictures of benefactors and, more anonymously, of doctors, of nursing sisters and even patients. These are objects which complete collections that are often older or contribute to the creation of new histories for the hospitals created in the nineteenth century. As in other regions, Burgundy has a number of these images which seem to offer an echo of the contemporary enthusiasm for portraiture, by painting, by sculpture or by photography.
