Description
Summary:The topic research of this investigation is the wage gap between men and women and how gender inequality affects it. The methodology used is the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition that divides this gap in two components in order to find out what are the causes of this differential. Several indicators show the occupational segregation that exists in Paraguay, it is also probed that the wage gap is present in all the seven years in which this research is framed. By developing the model of Oaxaca-Blinder, the results show that the part of the decomposition with more weight in the wage gap between men and women is the unexplained part attributed to the discrimination that exists in the labor market. The variables that do explain this difference are the occupation category, age, marital status and hours dedicated to occupation. The final recommendations focus on strengthening and encouraging state institutions, private companies’ projects and those of the society in general that benefit women in their labor market equal entry and stay.
