Description
Summary:Post-communist societies tend to function in a manner which contradicts the European integration model, placing the respect for democratic norms and values on a secondary position. The democratization process requires a functional and independent judiciary branch, the shaping of a justice culture, the internalization of justice laws and principles, both individual and collective levels. In other words, the consolidation of a democratic society could be achieved on fundamental principle of the rule of law. The present paper aims to highlight the European Mechanism of Cooperation and Verification’ potential and its influence on the implementation of the rule of law during Romania’s post-accession period. Methodologically, this paper employs content analysis of legislation and official European and Romanian documents.
