Description
Summary:Ertuğrul Karslıoğlu’s documentary, “Keçenin Teri” [The Sweat of Felt] (along with documentaries of Süha Arıkan’s “Kula’da Üç Gün” [Three Days in Kula] and Güner Sarıoğlu’s “Ladik 76”) rewarded with the “The Documentary of the Year” among the collection of ten country movies designated because of the celebration of the 100th year of the cinema in 1995 is both significant for our cinema and in way its creative, and visual narration of felting, one of our most important cultural heritage. In this article the director’s documentaries, “Suyla Gelen Kültür” [The Culture Comes with Water] (8 Episodes), and “Mardin’den Matera’ya Sonsuzluğa Mühürlenen Kentler” [From Mardin to Matera, The Cities Sealed by Eternity], and primarily “Keçenin Teri”, in which he featured tangible, and intangible cultural heritage in almost all of his work are dealt with in the context of language and content. In the article formed on two major problems, the roles of the cinematic language used by the director on the reception of the audience of the cultural heritage handed down by generations, and the elements of folklore; and besides being director his contribution to the nurturing of cinema students as he has lectured at the universities for years (the relationships between mentor and apprentice, and teacher and student) are discussed. The second problem of this article is about the characteristics of the genre of documentary, which should be more social instead of individual naturally, featuring the transmission of the elements and rhetoric of the folklore belong to a certain culture. Thus in order to raise awareness about the meanings of the elements of “folklore” and “cultural heritage”, an assessment is conducted about the curriculums of cinema and television departments of the universities (in bachelor’s degree) in our country. By the conclusion of the assessment the issues for and foremost the significance and necessity of folklore in the works (fiction, advertisement, besides documentary movies) will be conducted in the future especially in the genre documentary; and the sufficiency and insufficiency of the works of cinema in transmission of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage on its own. In this context some propositions in the direction of gathering attention by the contribution of the stakeholders from varied fields and raising awareness in the public opinion.
