Thus, in this study, the aim was to assess the general and oral characteristics of 20 patients of the APAE from Mogi das Cruzes city, where they were submitted to examination and implementation of a questionnaire for assessing oral characteristics, occlusal changes and more frequent habits. The data were analyzed with the statistical software EpiInfo version 6.0 and Harvard Graphics, version 2.0. The main oral features observed were macroglossia, muscle hypotonia, oral breath, ogival palate, few cavities and severe periodontal disease. The most frequent malocclusions found in this sample were anterior open bite with posterior crossbite, Angle Class III or Pseudo-Class III due to muscle hypotonia and macroglossia. The results have enabled us to conclude that the patients have occlusal changes caused by skeletal and functional alterations, and which are frequently found in patients with the syndrome.http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=92970105
