Summary: | The article analyzes the performance of the Judicial power in the Vila do Rio Grande de São Pedro (located in the Capitania do Rio Grande de São Pedro), between 1790 and 1810. The central focus is the criminalization of historical agents and, in particular, the existence of a Justice related to the military in this space, including punitive practices associated with this exercise of Justice. For this purpose, a documentary analysis is carried out, especially from lists of prisoners of the Vila do Rio Grande, produced by the military administration of the forementioned village and frontier, mainly relating to the year 1810. The piece also dialogues with the recent historiographic productions about Portuguese America, considering the frontier social constitution and critical criminology.
