| Summary: | The behaviour and productive parameters of 288 quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were studied in a commercial farm. They were supplemented with tryptophan as a precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Levels of 0 (T1), 1,25 mg/day (T2) and 2,5 mg/day (T3). The control group showed a higher number of birds (P<0,05) with an aggressive position before an external stimulus. This study proves that tryphtophan decreases aggression and stabilizes social behaviour. Similarly, the number of birds with moulted backs was higher in the witness group. During the evaluation period a higher egg weight was observed along with improved food conversion and a higher weight gain in the groups supplemented with tryptophan clearly showing the positive effect of tryptophan. |
