Summary:The primary aim of this paper is to present the development of mountaineering in the world as well as in our country. On the basis of our and foreign literature on the subject, the paper will present the directions of the development of mountaineering, today taking the forms of highland climbing, alpinism and sports climbing. It will also explain the terms related to sports climbing and deal with the development of sports climbing, which today appears in three forms: free climbing, bouldering and free solo. Finally, the paper will provide a brief review of the extent to which this sport is developed in our country in comparison to its development in the world, and explore the possible ways of further improvement in today’s conditions.
