The most important category for modern legal science is the “dignity of the individual”, as well as the idea of human rights and the equality of all before the law, founded not in this category, long before the Renaissance, the emergence of European humanism and Christianity. The first monument of law based on these ideas was the Pentateuch of Moses  the most important and fundamental part of the Old Testament. The merit in extracting this idea and demonstrating its determining role in the development of the state of Moses belongs to the famous Russian jurist and theologian Alexander Pavlovich Lopukhin (1852  1904). This article is dedicated to his work in the context of the idea of personal dignity.
