Summary:Because of qualitative changes in the precision of the apparatus and the methods of determination of the space position of points on the earth surface (GPS method), as well as because of the fact that in the measurement there are shifts (observed points) relatively to the near surroundment (reference points), posibilities of the use of these technologies and apparatus are studied also in the engineering geodesy – the field to which the measurements of deformation belong. The article presents results of the experimental confirmation of the GPS method in the determination of positional shifts of the ground dam Liptovská Mara.
