Summary:This study focuses upon the pathway of João da Silva Guedes in Mozambique Island in the transition from the 1700s to the 1800s, regarding his family, property, and business strategies. First are observed the Mozambique political and socio-economic contexts, the Portuguese colonization in relation to the previous social framework, and also the policies of social order adopted by the Portuguese Crown in the afore-mentioned chronology. Finally, the case of Silva Guedes is highlighted with the overall purpose to better understand how those who arrived there coming from different parts of the globe settled in the Island.
