Description
Summary:The region of Ribeirão Preto, composed of more than 80 cities in the Northern of São Paulo State was, in Brazil, one of the first cities to be largely exposed to global production and exchanges of agricultural activities. The stage of economic development that starts in the beginning of this century knew its definite impulse in the 1970s. Through the metamorphosis provoked by the technical-scientific revolution and through new forms of material and non-material production provided by it, this region has been transformed into a scene of successive modernization, what has changed all its geography, attributing a new sense to its time and to its space. One of its new characteristics is a quick process of urbanization and urban growth, promoted, among other factors, by new relations between city and countryside, provided by the new necessities of productive consumption of modern agriculture
