COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE OXIGEN MAXIMUM INTAKE ADAPTATION LEVEL FOR THE TWO COMPARTMENTS IN THE RUGBY TEAM

PURPOSE – this study approaches the level of the adaptive variations of the VO2 max level, by the body mass and the thoracic elasticity in the rugby-specific effort. Through this study, we aim to underline the particularities of the different lung capacity depending on game compartments and posts. W...

Through this study, we aim to underline the particularities of the different lung capacity depending on game compartments and posts. We also aim to emphasize on the need to particularize physical training. HYPOTHESIS – We assume that the forwards present a better lung capacity compared to those in the three-quarter line, directly related to the field spaces covered by the two compartments during the game.METHODS – The study took place during the 2009–2010 championship season, and it included 32 players, members of the “Stejarii Bucureşti” team. The players of this team are aged between 19 and 28 and they all have at least 5 years of experience in rugby. The morpho-functional measurements have consisted of the following:thoracic elasticity, oxygen maximum intake , oxygen maximum intake by body mass. CONCLUSIONS – Among the conclusions, we underline that, though the thoracic elasticity is in the optimal adjustment range for both player compartments, the VO2 max of the players tested is satisfying for the players in the ¾ line, while regarding the forward compartment, the values are below those obtained in similar studies within elitist rugby.http://www.sportsisocietate.ro/en/misc/doc/show/120ForwardsThree-quarterLung capacity
