The paper focuses on the problems of introduction of the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) into the practice of the libraries of Ukraine in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine «On the termination of the use of the Library and Bibliographic Classification and the introduction of the Universal Decimal Classification» dated March 22, 2017 No. 177. The experience of the introduction of the Library and Bibliographic Classification (LBC) in 1960-1990-ies is elucidated, significant labor costs re-indexing of documents being underlined. Attention is drawn to the need for coordination, proper methodological, financial and personnel support for the implementation of UDC.
