During XXth century, there was, throughout the civilized world, a remarkable development of media, which were acquiring an increasingly influential role in societies. That was quickly understood by political powers, who endeavored to control them. Among us, Marcello Caetano was the best informed about their virtualities, willing to use them (especially the newcomer Television) in service of his government and its policies. “Family Talks” afforded him a privileged channel for direct connection with people, to speak in plain language and informally, regarding some matters of country’s governance. Each “Talk” was like a lesson. But behind every message, despite the informal tone, there was (covert) an obvious political intentionality: propaganda.
