The changes of use, from the original - peacetime, to wartime, to the present-day, have been accompanied by large-scale reconstructions and upgrades, as well as repairs after the war devastation and destruction, and adaptations and alignments with the current museum activities. Through the prism of their social context, these changes have either given new and different values to the building, or backgrounded certain values. In the context of the recently completed restoration, rehabilitation and adaptation of the National Museum building, the paper presents a multidisciplinary approach taken by the preservation supervision in the execution of the works, as well as an effort to use all the new information gathered on the changes that the building has gone through in its long history, and to employ it in the process of restoration of the retained interior values of the cultural monument in question, to the extent to which it will not countervail the basic use of the building.https://scindeks-clanci.ceon.rs/data/pdf/1450-605X/2019/1450-605X1920185Q.pdfthe treasury directoratenikola nestorovićandra stevanovićthe national museumrestorationfacing tilesreconstructiongiltstucco marblemarbleizing
