Summary:This article examines the situation of journalistic language as it is used to discuss immigration in the press. The matter is addressed by taking into consideration the existing ethical framework governing the actions of the news professional. Since the press contributes to creating the image of immigrants, it is appropriate to make reference to the mechanisms that can currently be used to improve the presentation of news items that, either clearly or somewhat diffusely, associate the phenomenon of migration with crime. The article uses an approach based on different disciplines of the social sciences, particularly law, to analyze the routine practice of calling certain immigrants illegals
