Description
Summary:The paper presents the results of studying the dynamics of seed quality parameters (germination energy and seed germinability) during the storage of wheat (variety Polesskaya 90), cultivated after perennial grasses, peas and maize for silage, under industrial, ecological and biological cropping systems. Research program included the assessment of quality parameters before storage (control), and also after one, three, six, nine and twelve months of storage. The results of the study revealed a low initial level of germination energy and germination rate, as well as a prolonged period of post-harvest ripening (6 months) of seeds of the studied variety. Only after six months of storage, the germination index attained a high percent (on average 96-98%) and the seeds were characterized as conditioned. Preceding crops had no significant effect on the studied parameters, which was confirmed by the analysis of variance. However, a significant impact on the dynamics of germination rate was due to cropping systems, and especially to the storage period. The germinability of wheat seeds cultivated under industrial and ecological cropping systems was almost the same during 6-12 months of storage (within the limits of experimental error), which allowed to use these grains for the production of malt and for sowing.
