This task started with color printing, with the first colored engravings at the end of XVII Century, and ended with a rudimentary photomechanical process with three and four inks in printing magazines and daily newspapers. This paper wants to take a look at the creation of different chromatic codes in the XIX century Spanish Press. In fact, these codes were not built only with technological innovations but were born from artistic tendencies, popular movements and the evolution of the Spanish mass media from a strongly political model of journalism to the formation of real communication holdings.http://journals.openedition.org/argonauta/479ilustrated presscolortechnologyprinting-pressprinting
