In many areas and countries of the world, seaside tourism has been developing rapidly in the last decades and, for many countries, it represents a very important economic activity. The coastal areas are facing more or less severe effects of the coastal erosion. Significant beach areas disappear annually, under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors. Therefore, actions to restore, protect and expand the beaches are needed.
