Summary:The paper deals with a role of muscle dysfunction in primary headache disorders, such as migraine and tension-type headache (TTH). It considers terminology, the contribution of pericranial muscle dysfunction to the clinical picture and chronicity of migraine and TTH, their comorbid association, and the involvement of muscle tension in the pathophysiology of TTN. Approaches to treating muscle tension in patients with primary headache disorders are discussed and a role of myorelaxants in the correction of muscle dysfunction is emphasized.
