Summary:In Cuba, transformations in rural schools are taking place to facilitate the development of quality teaching-learning processes, where environmental education is a fundamental national issue due to its incidence in comprehensive education of elementary school children. The purpose is to foster personal and collective care, as well as environmental sanitation in rural, schools, in Agüero-Mar Verde People's Administration Council, municipality of Santiago de Cuba. This paper offers an environmental educational project for rural schools. Its practical application contributed to the consolidation of hygienic-environmental behaviors through implementation of regular hygienic practices, which change attitudes in natural and social environments. These actions were part of Turquino Research Project, designed at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Oriente.
