Thus, the role of the institutions should be fairly contributory. Specially, in the case of the university, since it is there that citizens, professionals and teachers are educated at all levels of formal education. Considering this context, the general objective of the present paper is to analyze the perceptions of lecturers working in universities of the state of Santa Catarina in Postgraduate studies in terms of equality and gender inequality in Academia. The research strategy was through personal semi- structured interviews with seven teachers from three courses of this nature. It should be noticed that this work is part of a more comprehensive study. Data was obtained from in- depth interviews through discourse analysis. The results showed that there is inequality in this context, even if subtle or invisible. Patriarchal behaviors are associated with this reality; they affect and hinder job performances. The findings related to their views about the university and its contribution to equality emphasize how important these institutions are for the clarification of ideas, creating opportunity and equality, as well as promoting changes.http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=319327517008genderequalityinequalityuniversities
