Summary:This article describes the phenomenon of linguistic compression, considered by the authors as one of the key means of representing cognitive information and scientific knowledge as two interrelated phenomena of the general information-knowledge continuum as a space constituting as not only a result but also an initial position of new generated knowledge. Various approaches to understanding the phenomenon of language compression were considered. The article also considers the factors that determine the relevance of increasing the density of information in a scientific text, highlights the main conditions for the successful implementation of language compression methods in the framework of scientific discourse. Comprehensive research methods allowed to determine which methods of linguistic compression are the most effective, and also to establish their specificity from the position of use in the German popular science text. The authors underlines contextual verification of the utterance serves as the basis of cognitive information compression within the text type under consideration, that gives the receptor the opportunity of adequate intussusception of the semantic and functional completeness of compressed units of different language levels.
