II.2 (1999), reopened the issue of our economic historiography's formative period. Addressing the period between the years 1929 and 1959, this paper has the purpose of reconstructing that process, and of indicating its main theoretical landmarks, by stressing in the analysis the activities and writings of Roberto Simonsen, Caio Prado Jr. and Alice Canabrava, besides those of Celso Furtado himself.
