This article explores the sociocultural conjunctures around the wealth of discussions about motherhood, aiming to find similarities and divergences between dynamics of Brazil and other countries. To do so, the paper contextualizes historical movements that have led to the current situation of women and motherhood in the capitalist West; examines the tensions in the coexistence between contemporary and historically constructed practices; and discusses to what extent the processes of continuity or rupture between them occur.http://journals.openedition.org/rccs/10972Brazilfemale identityfeminismmotherhoodwomanhoodwomen’s health |
