Description
Summary:A significant change took place in Anatolia following the opening of the Grand National Assembly on April 23, 1920 in Ankara, and turning it into the centre of the national struggle. In the course of this change, the power conflict between the old Sultanate and the new Republican administrations once again appeared along the Istanbul and Ankara axis as for the capitals of their respective administrations. After the war of independence ended in 1922 and peace talks began with the Allies, discussions on the issue of status of Ankara and İstanbul being the capital city emerged in the press of the period. In this article, an attempt is made to present an analysis of the Ankara-İstanbul conflict that persists even to this day, particularly by treating the aspects of these debates which took place in Ankara and İstanbul newspapers.
