Summary: | The article is devoted to a promising direction in modern philological science, i.e. literary translation. As the most active of the forms of intercultural dialogue, translation facilitates the interaction of languages and cultures involved in the translation process. Translation enables the reader to understand the national picture of the world, captured by the writer in their work.
Purpose. The aim of the study is to analyze the Russian-language works of the classic Ossetian literature Kosta Levanovich Khetagurov through the prism of the translation experience of the famous translator and poet Lev Ozerov.
Method. The main research method is the comparative analysis, involving the comparison of texts at the formal and meaning levels. In the course of comparing multilingual texts (original, translation), the main translation solutions in overcoming the difficulties associated with the specifics of the Ossetian language are identified by Ozerov. On the example of literary translations of Khetagurov’s poems “Song of the Poor”, “Farewell!..”, “New Year’s Eve”, “The Groom’s Thoughts”, the researcher establishes similarities and discrepancies in the presentation by the translator of the lexical composition of the original language. The author of the article focuses on the problem of reproducing evaluative vocabulary, formal organization, national specifics of the source text.
Results. On the basis of the analysis performed, it was established that in some places, the translator adapts the original to the reader’s tastes. To do this, the translation text introduces lexical units that are more characteristic of the Russian reality, and, as it seems, it is a psychological portrait of the lyric hero of Russian literature that is more recognizable in the presentation of the image of the hero. The transfer of imaginative means leaves a pleasant impression; the language of the translated text is more metaphorical in certain parts of the text. Ozerov preserved the grammatical features of the original words. When transferring the formal organization of the verse in translation, there is a partial impoverishment of line endings.
Practical implications. The results can be applied by teachers and students in classes on the theory and practice of literary translation, and the conclusions are used in the development of special courses and special seminars on the basics of translation studies. |
