Summary: | Introduction. The success of the formation of the knowledge economy involves the creation of the effective educational system that, through the provision of quality educational services to the population, contributes to the accumulation of national human capital, provides conditions for the introduction of the principles of continuous education and serves as the guarantor of innovation development and socio-economic progress in the region and the country.
Purpose. The purpose of the study is to determine the main characteristics of the knowledge capacity of educational space in Ukraine and its regions.
Results. The main parameters of the scientific capacity of the educational space in Ukraine during 2009/10-2016/17 academic years are investigated. The dynamics of absolute and relative characteristics of consumers at educational services in Ukraine, majority of them a post-graduate students, doctoral students, readers of libraries. The regional zonal arrangement of universities in Ukraine according to the places received by them according to the TOP-200 rating in 2009 and 2016 has been constructed. The regional disproportions of concentration of educational potential and perspective possibilities of their equalisation in the territorial distribution of high-quality, higher education services and opportunities for knowledgeable regional development are estimated. The grouping of the regions in Ukraine according to the criterion of the scientific capacity of the educational space is made.
Conclusions. Thus, despite some positive tendencies, the general state of the educational system in Ukraine, evaluated during the period under study, according to the indicators, can be assessed as unsatisfactory. It has been established that the number of students and graduate students of higher institutions is rapidly decreasing, all this affects the limited possibilities of satisfying market demand in the most scarce specialists and puts the majority of regional higher education institutions on the verge of survival. On the contrary, the number of doctoral students tends to increase, which is a rather positive trend for the innovative development of the regional economy. It has been determined that the largest number of institutions of higher education throughout the study period was concentrated in Kyiv and Kharkiv region. These regions, both in 2009 and 2016, remained strong leaders in the educational sphere in comparison with other regions and have the highest level of international recognition, the highest quality of scientific and pedagogical potential and high efficiency of mastering of new knowledge by students during the educational process.
