Description
Summary:Currently there is great interest in society and industry in the use of renewable resources. For this reason, methods for using agricultural waste to obtain lignocellulosic chemicals with higher added value are being increasingly studied. Within this scenario, various reagents, such as hydrogen peroxide, have been used in the pulping process and some even as complementing alternatives to conventional processes, aimed at reducing problems and environmental impacts. The present work aims to establish the best conditions for the application of hydrogen peroxide in delignified sugarcane bagasse in order to remove residual lignin for its subsequent conversion into cellulose derivatives of even greater value. Hydrogen peroxide was used in concentrations of 5%, 7% and 9%, and several quantitative assays were carried out to measure the variation in lignin levels and cellulose content. The 7% level of peroxide concentration was the most efficient, exhibiting a presence of lignin equal to 0.878% and 92.121% fiber content.
