The study was based on literature review and deductive-historical method. We concluded that both Brazil and the United States can only have its dynamic growth and development understood from a conception of the region as a subspace of the national space socially constructed. This concept diverges from the propositions made by D. North in the context of his EBT and carries with a number of specificities inherent to social processes, emerging at different scales and result of economic, political-legal and cultural-ideological determinations. http://www.uel.br/revistas/uel/index.php/ecoreg/article/view/32554/25918export baseregional growthbrazilusa
