Description
Summary:Based on the assumptions of the Douglass North´s Export Basis Theory (EBT) and a brief discussion about the concept of region, this work aimed to make a contraposition between the dynamics of growth and development experienced by the United States and Brazil since its colonization, respectively, in the XVIII and XVI centuries. The study was based on literature review and deductive-historical method. We concluded that both Brazil and the United States can only have its dynamic growth and development understood from a conception of the region as a subspace of the national space socially constructed. This concept diverges from the propositions made by D. North in the context of his EBT and carries with a number of specificities inherent to social processes, emerging at different scales and result of economic, political-legal and cultural-ideological determinations.
