Application of low enthalpy geothermal fluid for space heating and cooling, honey processing and milk pasteurization

In recent times geothermal industries are more focused towards other utilization rather than the electricity generation using geothermal water. Space heating and cooling, Honey processing and Milk pasteurization through geothermal water are some of such practices. This paper talks about an integrate...

Space heating and cooling, Honey processing and Milk pasteurization through geothermal water are some of such practices. This paper talks about an integrated system of space heating and cooling, honey processing and milk pasteurization at Dholera, Gujarat, India using geothermal water which is first of its kind in India. The geo-well water of 43–45 °C is utilized for driving space heating and cooling system while the discharged residual geothermal water of 75–80 °C is used for honey processing and milk pasteurization. The integrated plant is described under three sections: (i) Space heating and cooling plant, (ii) Integrated space heating and cooling system with honey processing and (iii) Integrated space heating and cooling system with milk pasteurization. The coefficient of performance calculated for space heating and cooling plant on heating side is 3 and cooling side is 2.076. In case of milk pasteurization the efficiency is computed from 1st law of thermodynamics. For each plate type heat exchangers the efficiencies are 65.6%, 86.2% and 45.6% respectively.
