Summary: | The following review of the book “The history of banks and saving banks in Bohemia and Moravia” written by Paul Juřík aims to present its rich content to general public. The book describes not only the establishment of banks and savings banks and their subsequent development activities and in some cases their decline, but also the lives of important people, who formed and influenced the finances in our country. In his detailed description the author also analyzes the impact of two world wars on the banking and finance law and describes also the “dark” aspects of our history, like the German occupation of the Czech Republic in 1939–1945 and quantifying the losses of the financial system in the given period. Postwar development of banking is revealed until 2011, not only by text but also by contemporary photographs and detailed tables.
