Description
Summary:Lower Paleozoic formations crop out along the Eastern Taurus mountain range near Tufanbeyli. The oldest known unit in the area is the Emirgazi Formation composed primarily of chlorite-sericite-quartz schists and metaquartzites. These rocks underlie conformably the Değirmentaş Limestone which is believed to be of Lower (?)- Middle Cambrian age. The observable thickness of the Değirmentaş Limestone is 110m and it is formed of white to light-gray and black to dark-gray limestones, with nodular limestone of various colors at the top. These are similar in character to the Çaltepe Limestone, of Lower (?)-Middle Cambrian age in the Seydişehir region, and are assumed to be of similar age. The Armutludere Formation of Tremadoc and Arenig age overlies the Değirmentaş Limestone. It consists mainly of shales with chlorite-sericite-quartz schist towards the lower levels. Silurian basal conglomerate lies unconformably upon the Armutludere Formation.
