Summary: | The objective of this study is to analyze the performance of the HEI from the comparison of time periods, the regions of the HEI and the formation of the dean. For this, three hypotheses were tested, H1 - there is a statistical difference between the performance of HEIs in the first six years compared to the subsequent six years; H2 - there is a statistical difference between the performance of HEIs in the south and southeast regions compared to other Brazilian regions; H3 - there is a statistical difference between the performance of HEIs with deans graduated in Applied Social Sciences when compared to other formations in Brazil. With 24 universities studied over twelve years and two dependent variables (IGC and CPC), there were 576 items to be analyzed. As a result of the study, H1 and H3 were rejected, and H2 accepted. It is concluded that the strategic adaptation of the Brazilian universities influences the institutional performance.
