Summary:We examined the effect of a lactate-based compound containing caffeine with voluntary running exercise on fat loss and metabolic improvement in diet-induced obese (DIO) rats. The rats treated with exercise training (Ex) and the compound (i.e., 1000 mg/kg body weight of sodium lactate and 36 mg/kg body weight of caffeine) with exercise training (ExLC) for 5 weeks showed decreased epididymal and scapular fat mass compared to the sedentary (S) rats, while LC rats displayed significantly decreased scapular fat mass compared to the Ex rats. The area under the curve for the LC rats during an oral glucose tolerance test was significantly lower compared with the S and Ex rats. Thus, administration of a lactate-based compound containing caffeine can effectively decrease fat mass and improve glucose tolerance even with low volume exercise training in DIO rats.
