<p>Callimachus fr.54, in calling Berenice II βουγενής, evokes not only Danaus’ descent from Io but further the Apis cult and that of Dionysus at Argos, important to the Ptolemies, and finally Empedocles’ vision of the evolution of orderly life.</p>
