Is the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union an Optimum Currency Area?

Currents of thought about the genesis and evolution of the optimal monetary area should be evaluated, in our opinion, by specifically employing a progressive approach. Such a vision comprises the authors' attempts to answer the question: is the European Monetary Union such an area?
