Summary: | Collection policy of botanical gardens has shown that plant introduction is an effective method of preserving plants ex situ (as a part of scientifically documented collections and expositions). The annotated list of the open ground medicinal and aromatic plants that have passed introduction test in the Botanical garden of SFU, is presented in the article. Based on the results of the analysis and generalization of results of a long-term introduction experiments and observations, winter hardiness, drought resistance, resistance to diseases and pests and seed reproduction were specified for all the species. Ecological and biological properties of the introduced species were estimated on basis of scales developed by domestic and foreign experts.
In total, information on 180 medicinal and aromatic plants species that belong to 46 families, is provided in the list. 11 of them are included into the Red List of the Rostov region (2014) and 7 of them – into the Red List of the Russian Federation (2008).
The published list can be of interest for a wide range of specialists in the field of botany, introduction, plant ecology and decorative gardening, for students, masters and graduate students, specializing in the corresponding fields of knowledge.
