EFFECTIVENESS OF ACADEMIC ADVICE IN THE LEARNING OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

Due to the importance of solving the low academic performance of medical students, a constant problem in higher education, and which is a widely researched multifactorial variable, the following research work was proposed to determine the effectiveness of academic advising to improve the learning of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in students of the medical career. An observational, analytical, prolective and longitudinal study was designed, which included a total of 64 first-semester students who studied the subject of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the medical career who decided to participate in the subject's consultancies. As a result, it was observed that there was a statistically significant difference between the averages compared before and after the assessments, in favor of the final evaluation in which an average of 71.52 was obtained. It was evidenced that the total of students that accredited and the Coefficient of determination was calculated, which indicated that the learning of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology depends on 53.2% of the academic advising. Therefore, it can be concluded that academic advising is effective to improve the learning of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in medical students.
