Summary:This study presents the families’ perceptionson their children, victims of abuse or accidents, obtained byinterviews with those children’s parents admitted to thepediatric clinic of a regional reference hospital in Vale do Rio Pardo, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, which aims to contribute for the reflection on the child and family’s healthcare. The used methodology was the social constructivism(1),that made possible the qualitative analysis of the data. Fromthis, the following categories emerged: the risk naturalization; the events as accidents; disclosed feelings (blame, responsibility, fear); uncapability to deal with the consequences and children’s family care.
