Summary:A total of 21 genera and 28 species of mosses belonging to 12 families were investigated from various localities of Amarkantak (Madhya Pradesh), India. The genera, Entodontopsis leucostega (Brid.) Buck & Ireland, Entodontopsis nitens (Mitt.) Buck & Ireland, Pseudotaxiphyllum elegans (Brid.) Iwats., Erythrodontium julaceum (Schwaegr.) Par., Trachyphyllum inflexum (Harv.) Gepp., Hyophila involuta (Hook.) Jaeg. Were the dominant taxa. The richness of the moss taxa has been recorded in the Kapildhara locality and the epiphytic forms are found to be the most successful taxa in the area. The mosses of Amarkantak have been enumerated for the first time.
