Summary: | First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Biology Open, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Martín Baccino-Calace is first author on ‘Compartment and cell-type specific hypoxia responses in the developing Drosophila brain’, published in BiO. Martín conducted the research described in this article while a master's student in Rafael Cantera's lab at the Department of Neurodevelopment Biology, IIBCE, Uruguay. He is now a graduate student in the lab of Martin Müller at the Department of Molecular Life Sciences, University of Zurich, Switzerland, investigating synaptic physiology.
