D.D. Zerbino – doctor of medical sciences (1965), professor (1966), honored man of science and technique of URSR (1988), corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1991), member of the International Academy of Pathology (1992, USA), member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (2002), prizewinner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2002), Head of the Pathological Anatomy Department of Lviv Medical Institute (1966-2000), director of Clinical Pathology of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (2000-2013), director of the Museum of human disease (such as national heritage) in 2013. In 1950 Dmitry Zerbino graduated from Chernivtsi Medical Institute and worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Topographic anatomy and operative surgery (with the clinic, where he worked as a surgeon – 1950-1953), later as an assistant of the mentioned Department (1953-1956). In 1956, after PhD defense, he moved to the Department of pathological anatomy where he worked as an assistant, associate professor and professor of the Department. In 1966 D.D. Zerbino was elected as a head of the Department of pathological anatomy of Lviv Medical Institute, one of the oldest in Lviv. From 1896 this Department was led by the famous European pathologist – professors A. Obzut (1896-1910), D. Dmohovskyi (1910-1919), V.Novitskyi (1920-1952). And after the Great Patriotic War, from 1945 – M.V. Voino-Yasenetskyi (1945-1952), after Ye.I. Palchevskyi (1952- 1966). Despite being the head of the Department, Dmitry Deonysovych didn’t break the tradition and continued the glorious path of his predecessors. He managed to activate all types of works, especially scientifi c. In his experimental work which was dedicated to the problems of clinical pathology, dominate 4 main approaches: pathological lymphatic system research and ultrastructure of lympho- and gemmomicrocirculatory paths; the second problem – vasculitis and angiopathy; the third – study of aortic pathology; the forth – the problem of human ecological pathology.https://mspsss.org.ua/index.php/journal/article/view/177dmytro zerbino, medicine, pathological anatomy, research, science school (leader and pupil, continuity of generation)
