| Summary: | Ambrosia artemisiifolia is a quarantine-organisme in Switzerland, which has to be combated compulsary since 2006. For animal feed, a critical value of 10 seeds of ambrosia per kilogram is tolerated. The quality improvement of feed for birds and small animals has led to a considerable decrease of ambrosia plants in gardens and green areas. The determined regulation since 2006 has been reliable. Greater populations of ambrosia in arable land have been reduced realy soon due to a combination of crop rotation and soil cultivation. A reduction of 95 % has been achieved after three years and of some 99 % after five years. Only crops being harvested before end of August have been cultivated (cereals, colza) or crops in which combating of ambrosia is possible (by applying potent mixture of herbicides in corn or by fertilizing intensively pastures of clover and grass). The very positiv result has been achieved due to strong actions at an early stage of the invasion of ambrosia. |
