Summary:Political Education aims at reflecting and framing the dynamics of social change in migratory societies, which are subject of controversial public discussion, in order to foster the political literacy of citizens. The main objective is the empowerment towards responsible participation and formative democratic capacity in a societal reality noticeably shaped by interculturality and ambiguity. Using the example of Germany this article outlines the academic discourse on societal change as a subject area and learning environment in political education. Following an exemplary problematization of central interpretive patterns with regard to the debate on migration policy this article concludes with a compilation of educational challenges.
